Queen of the Damned. Is it worth seeing? Article by Fellanora

Title: Queen of the Damned

Genre: Horror

Who: Stuart Townsend, Aaliyah, Claudia Black (as Pandora. Other creds: Farscape, Pitch Black)

Score: Jonathan Davis, Richard Gibbs (rich, dark, moody and quite possibly the best thing about the final cut)

Rating: two Bronx Rating

BronxBronx (Worse than Interview With a Vampire, but better than Dungeons and Dragons: the Movie ([and I'd rather claw out my eyes with a backscratcher than see the latter again.])

Box Rating: R (Vampire Violence...Vampire Violence! That cracks me up)

Summary: The mother of all vampires is awakened.

Comments: While Stuart Townsend could be considered a bit of grubby eye candy, Lestat he is not. If I hadn't seen Interview with a Vampire several times and more importantly, if I'd NEVER read the books, I'd have enjoyed this movie a great deal more, bad acting aside. Severe liberties were taken with the storyline which were in my mind, above and beyond the call of artistic license. I'll recommend it (grudgingly) but mostly to those who haven't read the books or those that have who can count themselves tolerant to what I'd call a "visual fanfiction experience." I could live with most of the effects, props and costuming were well within my sphere of interest but sadly, the best parts of this movie ended up on the cutting room floor. We see too little of the supporting roles in this but the parts of Jesse, David, and Akasha were well-cast. Purists might want to rent it on DVD and just watch the special features. (To borrow a bit of wisdom from Happy Bunny: It sucks and that’s sad.)

Comments: You MIGHT like it if you liked Dracula 2000.
